TWA FLIGHT CENTER FLATWARE
Sculpture In Everyday
introduction.
challenge.
Design a sculpturally beautiful flatware set using Rhino 3D to match a chosen theme. The TWA JFK terminal is a space that encapsulates the enthrallment and lust towards the jet age. A character trait of Eero Saarinen was designing the entirety of his spaces including the objects that went in them. This conceptual flatware set should be no less and reflect the space around it.
result.
I began in SubD, getting a baseline from the orthographic sketches. As I I began sculpting my mindset was to think of the model as a building rather than silverware. I wanted the end effect to be if the silverware was dropped into a different setting or context, it may be a mistaken for a part of the terminal
conclusion.
Understanding workflows can take time, but having a solid foundation in a program allowed me to not have to take away from my vision because of my skill level. I took the time to find a form I was proud of and was even more proud that I didn’t have to compromise and instead saw it through.
